What is the difference between OEM and ODM?
In an OEM project, the client typically brings a defined product design, specification or technical requirement for manufacturing. In an ODM project, more of the product development or adaptation is supported through the manufacturing route. The exact scope can vary by industry and factory.
What is private label?
Private label usually starts with an existing manufacturer product that is sold under your brand, with available changes such as branding, packaging, colour or configuration depending on the product.
I only have an idea. Can I start an ODM project?
Potentially, yes. Share the concept, target customer, intended function, reference products, target quantity, budget or target cost and launch timeline. The development route can then be assessed.
I already have drawings and specifications. Can MOOMOL source a factory?
Yes. Defined specifications can be used to assess suitable manufacturing capability, quotations, sampling and production requirements.
Can you develop a completely custom product?
Potentially. Feasibility depends on product complexity, manufacturing process, materials, tooling, MOQ, target cost, development requirements and timeline.
Do all custom products require a mould?
No. Tooling requirements depend on the product and manufacturing process. Some customisations use existing tooling, while unique forms or components may require new tooling or moulds.
Who owns the mould or tooling?
Tooling ownership, storage, maintenance, exclusivity and usage rights should be clarified in the commercial arrangement for the specific project rather than assumed.
Can I get samples before mass production?
Where applicable, samples, prototypes or pre-production references can be used to review and approve the product before larger production commitments.
What is the MOQ for OEM / ODM?
There is no universal MOQ. It depends on the product, manufacturing process, materials, customisation, tooling, packaging and factory.
Can MOOMOL also develop the packaging?
Yes. Suitable retail, branded or protective packaging can be coordinated with the product, subject to the project requirements.
Can you manufacture products for markets outside Malaysia?
Potentially, yes. Destination-market requirements should be identified early because they may affect specifications, materials, testing, certification, labelling, documentation or packaging.
Can MOOMOL guarantee product certification?
Certification requirements depend on the specific product, applicable standard, manufacturing route and destination market. Relevant requirements can be identified and coordinated as part of the project, but they should not be assumed to apply universally.
How do you compare factories?
Factories should be evaluated against the actual project requirement, including process capability, product experience, MOQ, capacity, tooling, quality expectations, pricing and commercial terms.
Can you support repeat production after the first order?
For suitable projects, repeat production can be coordinated against approved specifications and manufacturing references. Materials, pricing, capacity and other production conditions may change over time.
How early should I start an OEM / ODM project?
As early as practical. Custom product development can involve specification work, factory sourcing, quotation, sampling, revisions, tooling, packaging, testing, production and shipment. More customised products generally require longer development timelines.
